A Christian Passover Seder

March 27, 2013 By Faith

The Friday morning Women’s Bible Study groups held a Christian Passover Seder meal on Fri. March 22. The Christian version of the Jewish Passover Seder is formatted for families. It is used to teach parents and children about the Last Supper Jesus had with his disciples. See photos below.

The women prepared food you would see at a typical Seder meal:

  • Unleavened Bread – recalls the type of bread eaten during the Exodus from Egypt
  • Bitter Herbs – reminds of bitterness and suffering in Egypt
  • Green Herbs dipped in salt water – represents tears of sorrow during the captivity of the Lord’s people
  • Haroseth (mixture of chopped apples, nuts, cinnamon, and wine) – represents mortar used to build pyramids in Egypt
  • Wine (in this case, grape juice) in four cups, which represent Thanksgiving, Telling, Blessing, and Righteousness (the four words for redemption, spoken by God to Moses
  • Lamb – although the women only had a photograph of a lamb, at a Seder meal the lamb represents the Lamb of Sacrifice and also the Exodus from Egypt.

After learning about the Seder meal, the women enjoyed homemade bars and coffee, along with some fellowship.

New to Faith?

Building FAITH is the mission statement for Faith Lutheran Church, and it’s much more than just a slogan. You can see by all the ministries described on this website that God is Building FAITH in this church. It describes the amazing work God has done through our church through the years. It conveys our trust that God will amaze us even more in the future. It also calls all of us in this family of Faith to invest ourselves in the mission of bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to a world broken by sin. Continue Reading
