The history of Faith Lutheran Church is the ongoing story of men, women and children who, through the years, have ministered and been ministered to in their dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
It is the story of sacrifice and devotion, of death and resurrection. Our history continues in this year of our Lord, as families come and go from its fellowship.
In 1870, Danish immigrants, recognizing the need for spiritual nourishment and growth, formed the Hutchinson Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church. Early services were conducted in a schoolhouse and in private homes. During these formative years, a little church was built on Franklin Street which was used by Lutherans, Methodists and Baptists.
Recognizing the great potential for growth among Lutherans in this area, the Danish Lutherans built their own church on the corner of 4th and Main in 1895. This structure continued to serve as the place of worship until 1938, when the present structure was erected on the same site. The continuing growth in membership and program necessitated the building of a parish education unit, which was completed in 1957. In 1958, the congregation decided to change its name from Main Street Lutheran Church to Faith Lutheran Church. In 1970, a new narthex, concourse and offices were added.
In 2001 “Faith on Grove” was born with the purchase of a second building on Grove and the gospel reached people in new ways.
One year later, The Hope Center was born and our ministry stretched to meet the community’s needs. The world beyond our community opened up in a significant way the first time we met Rev. K. K. Alavi and heard about his dynamic mission in India. Following a Faith-sponsored trip there in 2004, the New Hope Mission Society was born. All the while worship attendance, Sunday School registrations, and programming have continued to grow.
In the Spring of 2010, construction was completed on Phase 1 of Faith Lutheran’s new building, and Faith on Grove was sold. Our new building allowed for new office space and three floors of gathering space to accommodate our growing congregation. We encourage you to scan through the “Get Involved” tab at the top of this page for a sampling of ministries at Faith Lutheran.
We continue to pray that we may be found faithful through our ministry of word and sacrament. We give thanks to God for the gifts, talents and resources that help us in Building FAITH.
Faith Lutheran is a member of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC), and the Augustana District within LCMC.
