Over the next few months, the Faith Lutheran Church Council will hold an online discussion about Crossing the Bar: Home by Another Way by James G. Johnson. The book is about the people and stories from the life of a pastor who is a bar tender. Each month, the council will discuss a new chapter. We invite all congregation members to follow along as the council reads this book together. The discussion will take place in the comment section (bottom of this post) of the blog.
Courageous Comes to Town
Courageous is a film from the creators of Fireproof. It was originally release to a limited number of theaters (1/5 what a normal, big-studio release would get), and now because of popular demand, it is coming to the Century 9 Theater in Hutchinson. As the productions company describes:
The film is about the meaning and importance of fatherhood, and the story centers around four police officers “all in various stages of fatherhood trying to figure out what it means to be a great dad.” Stephen Kendrick stated that “The film’s desire is for men to leave the theater making the decision that Joshua made when he declared in Joshua 24:15, ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.”
Courageous is an upcoming Christian drama film produced by Sherwood Pictures and scheduled for theatrical release on September 30, 2011. It will be the fourth film by Sherwood Pictures, the creators of Flywheel, Facing the Giants, and Fireproof.
Courageous starts Fri. Oct. 21, is rated PG-13 and is 2 hours and 10 minutes long. Let it spark some reflection and conversation in your household.

UPDATED: WOW Conference Highlights
Women of the Word of the Augustana District held their second Annual Gathering at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, MN on October 1, 2011. It was a wonderful, spiritually-lifting day for those who attended. The women in attendance enjoyed getting together and feeling connected with one another. Stephanie Freund of Hutchinson spoke on our theme of “Coming Together,” Pastor Mark Richardson of the Augustana District led our worship service, four pastors from the two LCMC churches in Hutchinson, as well as a ladies group from the choir at Christ the King, provided special music.
Approximately 110 women attended with about 20 other people involved in break-out sessions, music, displays, etc. Twenty-two churches from Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota and Wisconsin were represented. The mission projects for this gathering were Hospice/Aids kits and Newborn Kits for Global Health Ministries. One hundred twenty-three newborn kits and forty-one hospice kits were collected and sent to Global Health. In addition seventeen school kits were brought and will be sent to Lutheran World Relief. Thanks to all who put these kits together.
