As our collection for Operation Christmas Child comes to an end, and donated Christmas gifts in shoe boxes are shipped to children in countries around the world, we would like to say thank you to all who participated in the mission project. Donations poured in over the last several weeks, with many giving completed boxes, items to pack, extra boxes and cash gifts for shipping. Thank you also to the senior volunteers and the Release Time students (2nd – 5th grade children who come to church Wednesday mornings for an hour to learn more about their faith and grow in fellowship with one another). The two groups packed boxes on Wed. Nov. 7. The seniors prepared a cafeteria-style packing stations from which the children assembled the gift boxes. Pictures from the inter-generational packing event are below. You can see a pyramid of the ready-to-ship boxes in the east gathering space this Sunday, November 11, at Faith Lutheran.

Faith Lutheran is determined to finish a 4th straight year of meeting all our ministry commitments (this includes many mission efforts) without borrowing for the general fund. Reaching that goal will take a concerted effort in the last 12 weeks of the year. The church will need about $280,000 in offerings from September through December to make it. The updated financial forecast below shows our progress so far. How can you contribute to the “blizzard of offerings” predicted by Ian, our fearless financial forecaster? Look for further weather reports from Faith Lutheran News in the weeks ahead.

Our Lord invites us to serve him in feeding those who hunger among us. This is his invitation for sacrificial giving that all God’s children are fed. The 2012 goal for our annual hunger appeal is $10,000. This a challenging goal, one we surpassed in 2011. Consider your blessings, and give generously as your Lord leads you.
Your gifts will be distributed as follows:
Your gifts clearly marked for our “Hunger Appeal” can be given using the Mission Sunday envelope and/or the Thanksgiving Offering envelope.
“As much as you have done this for the least of these… you have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40
